Last night’s premiere opening VIP reception kicked off two weekends of unique theater experiences celebrating 50 years of Community College of Denver with a night of modern, devised performances. Titled “Our History Shapes Our Future” both productions take a look at how our past as a community shapes our relationships going forward.

CINCO DÉCIMAS
Using the structure of the Latin American décima poem, we present five original vignettes tracing the personal history and power of Auraria, one for each of CCD’s decades, that explore the schools’ roots and history. Written, produced & performed by CCD students, in collaboration with CCD Alumnus Tony Garcia of Denver’s Su Teatro.

A staged reading of Karen Zacarias’ play Just Like Us, exploring the plight of undocumented students in Denver, adapted from the book by Helen Thorpe. Presented in collaboration with the John F. Kennedy Center of Performing Arts and their American College Theatre Festival.
