Despite a brief but pouring rain storm hundreds of people came out to protest the separation of parents from their children at Save The Children Now! rally and march held the Colorado State Capitol in Denver on Sunday June 24th. Speakers included Representative Joseph Salazar who echoed the sentiment of many in the crowd blaming President Trump for the crisis and calling him the worst President in U.S. history.

In a Facebook post this morning Salazar wrote, “During my speech at the Rally, I said that I understood why Trump targeted immigrants at our southern border. It’s because the people he’s targeting are far more indigenous to this continent than he could ever dream! I also said that this fascist, Aryan Administration has got to go. Yeah, I said Aryan Administration. A heckler in the crowd told me to “move on” and “stop talking about ‘our’ President.” That didn’t work out well for him. Salazar added, “I meant what I said, yesterday.I mean it today. I’ll mean it for all the tomorrows… until we are done soiling our country with this regime.

This morning’s Denver Post reported that more than 2,300 children separated from their parents at the U.S.-Mexico border are being housed in some of 100 shelters across 17 states, but officials won’t say which ones. State and local officials have confirmed that children have been sent to New York, Oregon, California and Florida. Colorado doesn’t have an ICE facility for children.

But in Aurora, an ICE facility is housing 50 parents who’ve been separated from their children, heartbroken and desperate for information as they wait to discover their own dispositions.

Even when the parents are freed, despite assurances that they will be reunited with their children, the process is unclear and information on how long the reunion will take is unavailable.
