By Tuesday, Donald Trump is expected to end the DACA program, an Obama rule that protected undocumented immigrants who came into the United States as children and have no other home but America.
It is shameful that he wants to score political points with his base at the expense of the most vulnerable in our society. In 2013 I sponsored and helped pass the ASSET Bill, and I’ve never felt prouder than when I was standing on stage in front of hundreds of students at Metropolitan State watching the Governor sign the bill.
I remain committed to protecting these students, and as the Speaker of the Colorado House I will fight any attempt from the Trump Administration to come into Colorado and dismantle the protections that we have all worked so hard to build.
That’s why the State House must stay Democratic. We have seen other states enact draconian measures that target immigrants and make communities feel less safe. As long as I’m Speaker, I promise I’ll do everything I can to prevent that here.
If you want to help us hold our majority, please consider making a donation to the House Majority Project. Their work recruiting and training candidates is vital to making sure that Colorado can continue our proud tradition of helping those in need instead of targeting them for deportation.
