Colorado Artists Explore The Evolution of Latino Identity;  “Espacio Liminal/Liminal Space,” March 21-Aug. 24, Museo de las Americas

In this multi-media exhibition visitors can expect to be enthralled by the depth and sincerity of each artist’s work. Espacio Liminal | Liminal Space is about the multifaceted experiences one can encounter through their own life-path and circumstances and how these experiences have the power to transform one’s self entirely.

This exhibition will feature a mix of emerging and established Latino/a contemporary artists. While some of these artists have local origins, others have roots in Texas, Nicaragua, and Venezuela, however, all are currently based in Colorado making Espacio Liminal | Liminal Space one of the most modern and diversified exhibitions for the museum to-date.

Liminal Space is a transitional or transformative space. A waiting area between one point in time and space and the next. Just like how our cultures and communities are diverse and varied, so too is the beautiful, enchanting and creative history of art. Thankfully being Latino isn’t just a singular experience and in this exhibition you will see how these creative local artists are taking the knowledge and tradition of the past and its experiences and transforming our perceptions about cultural interpretations and identities into something that is new and original.

In this exhibition, the artists and their creative vision represent a basis of exploration for the audience’s own Liminal Space, through which they develop a sense of their own experience and interpretation. It is easy to fall under the illusion that looking at art is a simple thing. However, the work in this show is not about what are you looking at but what is it you see.

The Museo de las Americas has a wide-ranging mission that includes showing art from across the globe. This spring it focuses regionally with this exhibition of Colorado artists who will explore the evolution of Latino identity. The show, curated by Frank Lucero, features some of the most interesting artists around, many at the top of their game right now. Coming together for the event: Jaime Carrejo, Frank T. Martinez, George Perez, Diego Rodriguez-Warner, Sierra Montoya Barela, Alejandra Abad and Jacob Gutierrez.
