It literally takes a small army to raise the enormous circus tent for the upcoming Kooza Cirque du Soleil production coming to the Ball Arena. More than 100 men and women huffed and puffed lifting the many sections of big top to it’s final position. Most of the workers are hired locally.

Hong Kong has been clamoring for more exciting events, and Cirque du Soleil has delivered with the opening of Kooza. Inspired by the Sanskrit word koza – which means box or treasure – the spectacle is an explosion of bright costumes, energetic acts and lively characters.

Here are a few interesting facts about this amazing circus tent and about the upcoming production:

• The seating capacity of the Big Top is close to 2,500.
• The Big Top measures 51 meters in diameter, is supported by four 25-meter steel masts, and as more than 100 poles displayed all around. 
• The cupola is located at 19 meters above the ground.
• The light-colored canvas helps counter the effects of the sun hereby reducing energy consumption and minimizing greenhouse gas emissions. 
• On average, the site takes seven days to set up and three days to take down. 
• 70 trailers are needed to travel more than 2,000 tons of equipment from city to city. 
• The Big Top the artistic tent and the VIP tent are entirely climate controlled.
