ABOUT THIS PROJECT

El Rey Artwork and Estilos Denver in conjunction with CHAC gallery are here on Kickstarter to raise $3000 for the Dreaming of You Art Show, a festival celebrating the life of Selena Quintanilla. We need your help to ensure this festival happens and to keep the event free to artists and the community.

ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
Selena Art 7

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Tejano superstar’s untimely passing and we want to offer the community a way to celebrate her life through art, music, and children’s activities. We will start the festival with a candlelight vigil led by Aztec dancers through the art walk community on March 31st, 2015, we will end back at CHAC gallery where we will have a community Offrenda where anyone from the public can help with processing the loss of this iconic legend.

April 3rd is first Friday, we will offer an art show with all art focused on the life and music of Selena, the art show will run until the end of April. There will also be face painters and Denver’s own Los Latineerz Band will be playing in the courtyard. On April 17th is third Friday, we will have a Selena look-a-like contest for both women and young girls, karaoke to the songs of Selena, and face painters. On Saturday, April 18th is our children’s activities day where the kids will create art and learn about the life and legacy of Selena, this workshop will be led by a renowned Denver art educator. Outside the gallery will be a car show hosted by the Viejitos car club y Amigos, street tacos, and music.

OUR GOAL
Selena Art 1

This will be the first annual festival of this magnitude in the Denver community and we plan on having it for many years to come. We have set our budget at $3500 – $4000. We have received funding from our local artists and educators and have been asked by the festival committee to seek private funding to match what has already been donated. This is where you come in. We need to raise $3000 which will go towards covering the following:

Children’s art supplies

Gallery rental fees

Entertainment

Operational costs

No donation is too small—every single dollar counts! The way Kickstarter works is that our project will only be funded if our entire goal is met. If we fall even a dollar short we get ZERO (and your credit card will not be charged). It’s all or nothing, so if you would like to see the Selena Quintanilla “Dreaming of You” Celebration thrive in Denver, invest in your community and back this project! RISKS AND CHALLENGES

Our greatest risk is not raising enough money to cover the children’s art expenses and other operational expenses, but we are putting our faith in the community to help kick off this festival that also has the blessings of Selena’s father, Abe Quintanilla. Our community is important to us and we know that this event will be a blessing to many. We have a committee of artists, educators, and community members that are walking through this with us every step of the way!
