For over 35 years, The Mood Express performed for hundreds of signature events earning an induction
into the Chicano Music Hall of Fame in 2014 as awarded by Su Teatro Cultural and Performing Arts Center in
Denver. The Chicano Big Band performs with an all-star five-piece rhythm section, a six-piece horn section and a
male and female lead vocalist out front.

The group’s set list includes everything from Little Joe and Celia Cruz to
Earth, Wind & Fire and Benny Goodman; La Diferenzia to Malo; Tower of Power to Justin Timberlake; Santana to
Whitney Houston along with its own scintillating originals. Notable openings have included Gloria Estefan, the
late Tito Puente and Jose Jose, WAR, Freddy Fender, Little Joe, Ruben Ramos, Dr. Loco, Malo, Tierra, and Flaco

The last time The Mood Express played was for an outdoor concert in Thornton, Colorado in 2016. Original member and longtime bandleader, Ervin Lucero says, “I have never sensed such excitement among band members as they prepare for this reunion dance.” Ever since Ervin relocated to Albuquerque in 2015 the group has had limited opportunities to perform. Lucero envisions this will all change as he and local promoter, Joseph Gonzales of JAG Promotions (Albuquerque), aim to highlight the New Mexico connection and expand the audience for the band’s signature sound.
