Black & Brown Lives Matter In Life & In Art: Museo de las Americas Statement

Museo de las Americas believes Black Lives Matter. We believe brown lives matter, and we believe indigenous lives matter. For us, this has always been true and will always be true.

Museo openWe commit to supporting the black community by deepening our engagement with artists, curators and support professionals of color, especially black and afro-latinx individuals.

We commit to being strong advocates for all communities of color and strive to shine the spotlight on the incredible creative outpourings of these communities.

We also acknowledge that anti-blackness is a problem both within the art community and the latinx community. We commit to learning more about ways we may be perpetuating anti-blackness or oppression unwittingly, and we commit to making the changes that will allow us to be a deeply inclusive, diverse and equitable organization.

This work is deep and ongoing. Museo de las Americas is constantly working to build a foundation of advocacy, support and critical self-reflection. As we move forward with strategic planning for our next five years, we commit to building a framework centered around justice and equity. Together with our community, we are powerful, and we are part of the forces of positive change that are sweeping this nation at long last.

Museo open_2Museo de las Americas is dedicated to educate our community through collecting, preserving, interpreting and exhibiting the diverse arts and cultures of the Americas, from ancient to contemporary, through innovative exhibitions and programming.
