Denver Art Museum Seeking Local Artist(s) To Create Large-Scale Mural; Proposal Due Feb. 12, 2021

The Denver Art Museum (DAM) is looking for a local artist or multiple artists working in collaboration to submit a mural project proposal for the reopening of the museum’s Martin Building, slated to open in the fall of 2021.

Description automatically generated Working together with the museum and local community, the artist(s) selected for this new, large-scale mural commission should tell a story of the Denver metro area’s vibrant and creative scene, as the mural will serve as a beacon of welcoming to students, families and visitors of all ages who enter the museum’s doors near Denver’s Civic Center Park.

The mural, with a canvas set for about 12 x 28 feet, will remain on view for up to three years and should aim to enrich the lives of museum visitors by sparking creative thinking and expression.

The ideal artist(s) for this project:

Mural artist(s) with experience working in a variety of environments.
Local, with strong ties to communities in the SCFD seven-county Denver metro area (Adams, Arapahoe, Boulder, Broomfield, Denver, Douglas and Jefferson counties).
Interested in projects with participatory experiences for the public.
Interested in collaborating with museum staff in project planning.
The artist(s) selected for this opportunity will receive $10,000 in total for the completion of the mural artwork and a supplemental materials budget. Additional support, such as installation, marketing and promotional support, will be provided by the museum. Artist who have experience or interest in engaging the community and celebrating diverse voices and perspectives are encouraged to apply. No prior working relationship with the museum is required to apply or be considered for this opportunity.
