“Esaul Ramos’ story is the epitome of reaching the American Dream”, Mr. Wahby said.  Esaul has been perfecting his BBQ trade since he was 16 years old.  After working in restaurants in Texas, the Carolinas, Utah and Mexico, he and his best friend from High School, Joe Melig, decided to venture into the restaurant business themselves.  Armed with a huge passion for BBQ and a strong belief in their trade but no money, they talkeda landlord into letting them build the restaurant, with the promise that, once running, they would buy the building within a year. After shaking hands on the deal, they became plumbers, electricians, and carpenters for the next six months, recruiting family and friends to help them open their restaurant, “2M smokehouse”,which they did on December 3, 2016.   “It was a long journey.  At times we didn’t think we were going to open but we were able to, and now we’re going on three years.

We sell out of food everyday” said Esaul Ramos.  2M smokehouse has experienced amazing success and has been widely featured in a variety of top magazines and publications such as Bon Appetite and the Wall Street Journal.  It has also received lots of local and national accolades, among them inclusion in the Eaters Best 38 restaurants in the nation, and, just five months after it opened, in the Texas Monthly Top 50 Best BBQ Joints list in the state.  Esaul was also invited to participate in the Food Network’s “Chopped” competition, where he performed very well.
