Now Accepting Nominations For Denver Public Library Latino Community Service Awards

The Denver Public Library is currently seeking nominations for the Latino Awards. The Latino Awards honor community members who have made a deep and lasting impact on the community. Award winners are selected by a committee consisting of library commissioners, community members and staff. Nominations are due Friday, July 26, 2019.

Award winners will be celebrated at an awards presentation on Saturday, September 21, 2019, 10 a.m.-12 p.m. at the Rodolfo “Corky” Gonzales Branch Library. The event is free and open to the public.

The Lena L. Archuleta Community Service Award

The recipient will be a person of Latino descent who has made a positive impact on the Denver community, beyond paid employment, in the field of education, youth development, early childhood programming, or education policy. This includes formal and informal educators. The recipient does not have to live in Denver to receive the award; however, their work must impact the Denver community. The nominee must be living.

The recipient will be a person of Latino descent who has made a positive impact on the Denver community, beyond paid employment, to advance community development and/or cultural life through their involvement with the Denver Public Library or another civic institution. The recipient does not have to live in Denver to receive the award; however, their work must impact the Denver community. The nominee must be living.

Past award recipients are: Eric J. Duran (2015), Frank Fresquez (2016), Antonio Mercado (2017), Anthony R. Aragon (2018).

The César Chávez Latino Leadership Hall of Fame Award

The award, presented annually, will celebrate the induction of one individual into the César Chávez Leadership Hall of Fame. The recipient will be a Coloradan of Latino descent who is committed to social justice and has made a significant positive impact on their community through community organizing, direct service, and/or advocacy and public policy. The nominee must be living.
