Mariachi Alma del Folklore, an all female mariachi group kicked off the official opening of the 2019 Biennial of the Americas summit this morning at the McNichols Building in Downtown Denver. (see video). Denver Mayor Michael Hancock talked about the value of having Biennial of the Americas held in Denver every two years. “We are able to bring Latin America to us and let them see through a conversation about empathy in action, about celebrating our culture and our commitment to the arts and how it speaks in different languages no matter where you come from. The power of our value system here in Colorado is on display this week.” said the Mayor, adding, “We are excited that this is an opportunity for us to bring down the walls that may divide us and build and strength the changes that can lift us up.” (see video).

Over 85 delegates from the Youth Congress for Sustainable Americas gathered yesterday for a full-day of thoughtful programming. Delegates traveled from Chile to Canada to work together and share best practices to push for urgent climate change action. Meanwhile, our partners at the CSU Salazar Center hosted their inaugural Symposium on Conservation Impact at McNichols Building. And speaking of sustainability, local artist Brandon Bullard spent the day weaving textiles for #28 Rubric. Swing by McNichols Building to see the finished installation!

Carlos Martiel’s raw and provocative performance of “South Body,” curated by Marisa Caichiolo in partnership with K Contemporary left the audience deep in thought and awe.
The art installation openings of Adriana Ramirez’ “I am going to _ _ _ _ ,” Brandon Bullard’s #28 Rubric, local artist Moe Gram’s Every Human, and Suchitra Mattai’s Imperfect Isometry is also available for viewing.
