What a great Cinco de Mayo fiesta again this year in Denver May 6th & 7th. There was a parade, carnival, traditional and modern dancers, a taco eating contest, a lowrider car show, a quinceanera show, chihuahua races, lots of great music on two stages for both Spanish & English audiences, tons of delicious food, lots of beer and most of all a great time had by everyone. (see photos galleries below)
Even the Mayors of Denver and Juarez, Mexico along with the Consul General of Mexico, the Denver Chief of Police and other dignitaries went on stage to show solidarity not only between the city of Denver and it’s Latino population as well unity between the people of the U.S. and Mexico. “We need to be talking about how to build better relations between our two countries not tearing them down,” said Denver Mayor Michael Hancock. Produced by NEWSED community Development Corporation, led by the mother and daughter team of Veronica & Andrea Barela and their dedicated staff, this year marked the 30th anniversary of Denver celebration of Cinco de Mayo. Under the direction of NEWSED the festival has grown from a small street party on Denver’s Santa Fe Drive to the largest Cinco celebration anywhere in the world now staged at Civic Center Park in Downtown Denver.(see photos galleries below)
The event drew tens of thousands of people over the two day festival. Despite a thunderous rain storm on Sunday afternoon (see photos gallery below) which threatened to cancel the festivities the show went on much to the delight of those stuck around.
Latin Life Denver was honored to again be a media sponsor and official photographers for the 5th year in a row.(see photos galleries below)
