Story & Photos by Jessica Montour for Latin Life Denver Media
RAW VISIONARY transformed City Hall on Broadway in Denver with an explosion of fashion, art, dance, film and music Thursday, January 22nd. Latin Life Denver joined over 40+ artists covering several artistic mediums. RAW produces bi-monthly showcases in over 72 cities in the US, with locations in Australia, Canada, the UK and creates a worldwide platform for local artists to feature their work.
Talented artist Adrian Armstrong traveled to Denver from Omaha, Nebraska to share his artwork at the RAW show. “RAW is a great opportunity for me to check out other cities and the art scene…people in Denver are so welcoming,” Adrian shared. Among his work displayed is his favorite piece by the name of We Can’t Breathe #1 which depicts a young man being choked by four sets of hands. You can follow Adrian on tumbler @artofadrianarmstrong.
While browsing the art, hipsters enjoyed the tunes of Hi-Strung playing cover of one of my favorite songs…Enjoy the Silence. You can catch them at an upcoming performance at The Brew on Broadway February 7th. Ironically, I was enjoying everything but silence while I meandered around browsing the handcrafted accessories of Rustic Souls
(therusticsouls.etsy.com), and work of artist and designer Julie Cole (etsy.com/shop/ tuffjulz) who featured a plethora of handcrafted Colorado magnets for $5.
There is always a special anticipation as I make my way downstairs to await what is to come on the runway. This go around, it took a bit longer than usual as I stopped to check out the glow in the dark chicas covered from head to toe. Not sure how that works in the car and can only imagine what the shower or tub looks like after…but boy what a sight to see. The Artist Kelsie does multi-dimensional works including canvas, body art and photography. For inquiries or to book an appointment visit (www.theartistkelsie.com).
Before the catwalk opened up I had the opportunity to check out the rad designs from Kristin who hand makes pocket belts and wearable art (www.etsy.com/shop/kradwear). I especially dig the boho chic boot covers she had on display which are a sure way to make a statement.
Did I mention these goodies are re-purposed? I am a sucker for artisans who upscale items and create a new and trendy piece for resale. Walking, walking, walking…until being drawn into the colorful and masterfully fun stain glass lampshades, bottles and furniture from a mother-daughter duo. These two are “reedecorators & deesigners” alright. This is their first show and are not yet represented
in retail. If you own a gift shop or boutique look these two up (Gypsy Fusion) as they have items that will easily draw you in. Closing the show our RAW host Orion Carrington welcomed a robust runway show
featuring the unmistakable designs of Kimono Dragons (www.kimonodragonsfdr.com).
I need those long leggings in black mister mister. Bobbie J Designs also took to the stage with a full line up featuring sparkle and revealing looks for her.
In addition to these collections was the oh so revealing lingerie from Wonderland Designs. Pin up style and sexy bloomer bottoms with next to nothing on top. There are sheer pants, cup less braziers and the next big tutu in every color. A show so hot fellas in the front row were removing their layers.
The grand finale was well worth it as Andrea Li knows how to grab the attention of an entire venue to showcase her spring jewelry collection. With the entire back wall running with original video and techno music blaring…her models took to the stage and owned it. Her designs are fresh, edgy, unique and so statement. There is nothing quite like it around. Just when you thought it couldn’t get any better the music slowed and the girls outfit went from whiteout to blackout. How else could you possibly highlight glow in
the dark neck and eye candy? With black light flashlights in hand, the ladies slowly walked the runway as the audience stared in awe. It was an experience and definite highlight to the nights event. Check out photos that do her collection justice on her instagram@andrealidesigns.
Don’t miss the next RAW showcase in March. Latin Life Denver will be there to celebrate the underground and you should too.
