Santa, Luminarias & Aztec Dancers Visit Denver’s Art District

Santa Claus is in town and making the rounds. He stopped by the Santa Fe Arts District earlier this month as part of First Friday Artwalks. The holiday-lighting ceremony sponsored by NEWSED brought back its Luminarias display with hundreds of paper lanterns — a Southwestern tradition. Carolers, youth mariachis, a roaming Santa Claus and Aztec dancers went from storefront to storefront serenading and entertaining visitors both young and the young at heart.

The evening was sponsored by NEWSED Community Development Corporation. NEWSED’s primary focus has been to solve long-term economic problems in disadvantaged communities by securing and coordinating resources for neighborhood revitalization, developing needed shopping areas and services, fostering minority and neighborhood business ownership, job retention and creation, increasing home ownership and affordable rental opportunities, neighborhood organizing and hosting cultural events and activities that showcase the neighborhood’s predominately Chicano/Mexicano population.
