Viva Las Vegas took to The Orleans for Rockabilly Weekend in sin city over Easter weekend and Latin Life Denver was there to take in all the action. Car shows, burlesque bingo, good music, pinup girls, and fashion was all the rage!

We think of the 1950s as an age of innocence…just sprinkle that with tattoos and brightly colored hair. Day one opened up with a fashion showfeaturing hula girls by Coco Tiki. Emcee Sheila Starsiana, a burlesque dancer herself, welcomed 10 designers to the stage.

Most strutted the runway with looks made “for her” available in every size. Fables by Barrie stole the show with her western vintage line called Pony Tales for 2015.

Her designs are all USmade with denim meets fringe and hi waist meets western. Barrie strives to keep her collections forward by doing things outside and ahead of the mainstream. “I am always looking to design for the next thing,” shared designer Barrie of Fables with Fashion
Editor, Jessica Montour after the show. Indeed! She is a trend setter rocking out an all gold pant suit with an Elvis inspired, hand crafted belt. Speed dial us when you get your belt collection launched. Wink. Wink.

Mishap was up next with rockabilly pinup clothing for rocking ladies. Mandy Miller designs for the 1950s lifestyle bringing seaside brights, flavors from the orient, and military inspired looks. She is from Cape Town South Africa and prides herself on using African fabrics. In addition, she carries pinstripe hand bags, cardigans, and of course hula prints.

The Oblong Box Shop from San Diego designs fun and flirty designs. The highlight of their collection was their petticoats and pencil skirts. They design for every female form and have inspired all with their one-of-a-kind tulle skirts. They have the “palm springs” spring collection where tiki meets out of this world original art. Super creative!
“It’s great to have options regardless of size,” shared one on looker. Pinup by Cindy Lee does exactly that…designing out of California. They design for every size woman where every single look comes in a regular and a plus size.

There is no rockabilly lifestyle without the accessories. From handbags to hairpieces to neck scarves there is always that must have piece. White Wall Wear out of the Bellflower, California made quite an appearance on the runway. Bringing out their roll rack to feature their clutches, headpieces, and lunch box purses.

Need something a bit more Mrs. Cleaver? The graveyard out of Montreal Canada shows out of this world fabrics, bags, aprons, and slumber party nighties. If it is domestic doll you are going for…definitely look them up.
In a league all their own is Paper Doll Productions out of Orange County, California. They have been designing since 1993 and have stuck to their guns with a rockabilly look that has a punk rock edge. From the “bones around my neck” necklace to the monster and zombie prints…they clearly represent a one-of-a-kind design category. Keep bringing it!

Next up was Wardrobe Divas who’s motto is to stand out every day. They’re all about
accentuating curves and viva la glam. There were a lot of black and whites on display and t-shirt screen print designs to die for.

Can you say Dia de Los Muertos skeleton applying lipstick? Just Fab!!! Closing out the show was Silly Old Sea Dog (UK) and Swearing Parrot (Houston, Texas).

Silly Old Sea Dog featured fun prints of Pac-Man and the periodic table. Swearing Parrot is all about handcrafted vintage inspired apparel and believes that style cannot be manufactured.

Ain’t that the truth! HELLS YEAH!

After 18 years Rockabilly Weekend just keeps getting better and better. If you plan on entering a time warp by checking out this event in 2016…don’t wait too long. The Orleans books up a year in advance for this Easter weekend tradition.
