TLC, part of the Discovery Communications family, joined forces with The Cable Center and JCPenney to brought its SAY YES TO THE PROM initiative to Denver on Thursday, March 19. The program, designed to build courage and self-confidence among young women, welcomed a select group of deserving high school girls from Abraham Lincoln High School as well as a Make-A-Wish® wish recipient to The Cable Center for a day of mentoring, prom dress shopping and makeovers. In honor of the day’s events, Denver First Lady Mary Louise Lee also joined the festivities to read a proclamation from the Mayor’s office declaring March 19 SAY YES TO THE PROM DAY in the city.

Monte Durham, fashion director and star of TLC’s SAY YES TO THE DRESS: ATLANTA, hosted the day’s events, where each girl was paired with a mentor who served as coach, personal shopper and style assistant throughout the day. Prom dreams were granted as each of the girls has the opportunity to select from more than 800 donated prom dresses as well as a wide range of stylish accessories provided by JCPenney. Girls received hair styling and makeup courtesy of JCPenney salon experts and Denver stylists before taking the stage in a red carpet runway reveal. In addition to the day’s style sessions, mentoring events and a red carpet finale, First Lady Michelle Obama addressed the girls with a special video message.
